Milledge Mosby started attending Unity in 1973 at Detroit Unity Temple. He served as a volunteer at that church under Reverend Glenn Mosley and then under Reverend David Williamson. In 1978, the Mosbys moved to Maryland where they attended Unity of Washington, D.C., and soon thereafter, Milledge was asked by Reverend George Stone to work part-time for the church as the Business Manager. Within six months the part-time position became full-time and was the beginning of a long, transformative career.
After Reverend Stone left, Reverend Amalie Frank became the minister. Under Reverend Frank’s tutelage, Milledge began teaching classes in addition to serving as Business Manager. To further prepare him for serving as a spiritual teacher, he began studying at Unity Village in Missouri toward becoming a Licensed Unity Teacher. Milledge was groomed by Reverend Frank to eventually become her assistant minister. He stayed in that position until 1991 when he pioneered the new ministry, Unity Center of Light in Bowie, Maryland, in response to a growing demand for a Unity church in that area.
He completed his studies and was licensed as a Unity Teacher in 1991. He immediately applied for and was accepted into the Ministers’ Field Licensing program, a four-year process toward being ordained by the Association of Unity Churches. He was ordained as a minister in 1997. Milledge has been in Unity for over 50 years, serving as a teacher and ordained minister for 40 of those years.
Milledge’s background includes 15 years in the corporate world and he just retired from 40 years as a Professor of Marketing and Sales at Prince George’s Community College. As a college professor, he developed a formula for combining spiritual principles, which are usually perceived as abstract, with business principles, which are usually perceived as more concrete. This approach makes real ideals like faith, peace, and love.
In his own life, he demonstrates what he teaches through his disciplined involvement in a variety of activities, such as power walking, strength training, golf, photography, and continuous research and learning. These activities help him to continue to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Pamela Mosby, Pastoral Assistant of Unity Center of Light has been affiliated with Unity Churches since 1973 when she began working for and attending Detroit Unity Temple. In 1978, Pam moved to the Washington, DC area with her husband
Milledge and their two children, Adina and Damon. She worked as the secretary for the Rev. George Stone. When Rev. Stone took another assignment, Pamela continued her duties under the new minister the Rev. Amalie Frank until 1991.
In October of 1991, responding to requests from members of Unity of Washington, D.C., Pamela, together with Milledge and Patti Anessi, helped establish the Unity Center of Light in Bowie, Maryland where she became Pastoral Assistant.
In addition to her duties as Pastoral Assistant, Pamela is an active member of the Unity Choir and has taught a variety of classes, facilitated workshops and retreats on Faith, Prayer, relationships, Self-esteem, and healthy lifestyles. She is the co-founder of the Women of Unity Group.
Pamela sees as part of her mission the establishment of a permanent physical home for Unity Center of Light. Almost as important to her is the commitment to play an even greater role in the congregation’s growth. Her special emphasis is on helping new prospective and existing members discover their own God-inspired talents. These talents can then translate into meaningful ministries within the Unity Center of Light structure.
On a personal note, Pamela’s passion is physical fitness training and she has shared her extensive knowledge in this field with many congregants. She and her husband, Milledge are the proud grandparents of granddaughters, Daija and Kallista, and a grandson, Damon.
Maxine has been a member of Unity Center of Light since 2011, engaging in various volunteer roles such
as ushering, reading Daily Word, assisting on the platform, providing refreshments, and contributing to
World Day of Prayer events. Maxine was raised in the Episcopal church, but after entering adulthood
and attending church every Sunday with her mother for many years, she knew that something was
missing – the deeper to connection to God. Her aunt who was an active Unity Member in Washington,
D.C. introduced her to the Daily Word booklet in the early 2000s, and gave her a monthly subscription of
the book until her death in 2010. The Daily Word was her introduction to Unity, and its principles.
Maxine’s application of the Unity principles and teachings to her life, has allowed her to tap into the
spiritual light that shines within and without, transforming her personal lives and interactions with
others. Unity’s approach to understanding the Bible is through a metaphysical lens, viewing it as a guide
on one’s journey toward spiritual awakening.
Maxine knows that she is a spiritual being having a human experience on Mother Earth, and she
understands the role that prayer and meditation plays in her life. She states that prayer and meditation
bring her in alignment to her higher self, and connection with Source to obtain divine guidance, answer
questions, and receive the highest and best for her life. Maxine believes that although we are individual
expressions of the Divine, we are still ONE. Just like the wave in the ocean – there is no separation. We
have to be of service to each other.
Professionally, Maxine formerly owned and operated College Nannies and Tutors of Bethesda & DC for
twelve years until 2021, when she sold it. She has previously served as the Board President of Literacy
Volunteers of America (DC), and has 20+ years of experience in corporate sales and marketing, with an
MBA in Marketing. Maxine served as Board Treasurer for UCL for several terms until February 2025
when she assumed the role of center administrator.
Maxine is currently a SCORE certified mentor for Great Baltimore mentoring entrepreneurs to start,
grow or exit their business. In 2023, Maxine was awarded the Volunteer of the Year for SCORE, Greater
Baltimore. In 2025, she was inducted as a honorary member of Sigma Nu Tau Entrepreneurship Honor
Society at Morgan State University.

Unity allows me to be an active participant in my own spiritual growth as opposed to just an observer of rituals. Unity is a place where people come to unleash the power within. Unity allows me to live beyond my ego and fear, and surrounds me with supportive, loving people to reach out to when I miss the mark.”

Lanardo Moody, as a youngster, was always active in church and Sunday School and was interested in religion, philosophy, and psychology. Except in a couple of instances over the years, he has always been active in church. In 2011, he was received into full membership in the One God One Thought (OGOT) Center for Better Living in Baltimore. OGOT is part of the Universal Foundation for Better Living, an organization founded on the principles of Unity by the late Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon. Dr. Colemon attended the Unity School of Christianity and was the first black person to live at the school during her training. While at OGOT, Lanardo completed courses in the Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary Master Certificate Program as well as Spiritual Foundation Courses. He was active in the Optimal Health Ministry and served as an OGOT Church Greeter.
Although his background is varied—including service in the U.S. Air Force—he has worked in skilled technical, service, and various professional positions. In 2012, Lanardo began to teach a course as an adjunct in the fundamentals of spiritual awareness at a local community college. Subsequently, he continues to teach this course. He is a Master Adjunct Instructor in Health Sciences and has taught numerous health education and public health courses for over twenty years. Most of his professional career has been in public health—either teaching it on the college level or working in various positions mostly for the federal government as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) before retirement. Some of his awards/honors include the U. S. Navy Unit Commendation, the USPHS Citation, the USPHS Achievement Medal, the USPHS Commendation Medal, and the Surgeon General’s Exemplary Service Medal.
After attending UCL for a while, Lanardo and his wife became members in 2023. When asked to briefly explain what the Mission of Unity Center of Light means to him, he answered: “The mission of UCL is to help each person realize that we have within us the presence of the Creator and can also access and utilize the power of the Creator. This power is magnificently transcendent and beyond intellectual comprehension. UCL provides us with instruction and guidance on how to better attune with and use this divine power for ourselves and others.”
